hiatus over

It has been a long time since we have updated this. So, here are a few of the things that we have been up to in the last 2 years:

Did I mention we went to Disneyland?

Heather has been climbing

Sierra has been...climbing

Ysabel has been climbing

Oh, we also got a bunch of chickens...they got eaten by a neighbors dog though...We have new ones now...and a fence, as an aside it is hard to believe that Maya is using this dress now.

Phil has been fishing

and Maya has been climbing.

It would appear that some of these things are not like the others.

The winter of 2010-11 has also been the year that we decided that we were going to teach the girls to Ski. It went a little like this:

Phil went snowboarding

Heather went skiing

Ysabel learned to ski

Sierra learned to ski

Maya learned to ski

Phil realized that he was missing out and HE also learned to ski.

This year has been quite enjoyable. We took a spring trip up into Moscow (Cow-Town), Idaho and had a wonderful visit with the Carman's. Shortly after that Phil had the chance to go to Costa Rica and be part of a group exploring and fly fishing from one Costa Rican coast to another. And the entire family actually went climbing. Growing up together really has its rewards AND its challenges. However, we would not trade it for all the PS2 games in China...We mean it!

Hurricane Pass: A Girls Day Out

Saturday was a Ladies hike day. We chose to hike over Hurricane Pass. We started in Teton Canyon, went through Alaska Basin and ended at Jenny Lake. The weather was prefect. The fall colors and smells were delicious and the company just made everything better. Some girls like to shop... others...not so much.

I packed up the girls and headed for a few days of camping and rock climbing at the City Of Rocks. We met up with some friends and the rock climbing class from BYUI. We made a lot of good memories and new friends. I didn't have to wash many clothes when we got home. Most of them ended up being thrown away. Good thing we pack old ones. We ended the trip on a little hike up Bath Rock, got caught in a huge hail Storm and ended up running for what felt like our lives back to the car while trying not to slip on the wet rock and being pelted by huge hail. It was a great trip and the girls already are asking to go back.

This spring has been a wet and cold one. Here is Kim moving the lawn in the rain. Later that night while eating dinner Phil called to let me know that he will not be coming home that night. So I suggest a chick flick night. Ysabel asks does that mean we are going to flick our chickens. I explain that is means we rent movies with less fighting and more kissing. She only thinks this over for a moment before replying Ill take the fighting.

driving in the country we spotted what Y thought was dinosaur bones and S thought it was whale bones...of course we had to explore.

So I'm building a chicken coup for our chickens. The other day while phil was working on the roof the kids where playing school. Ysabel is the teacher and her cousins and sister are the students. The desks are planter boxes turned upside down that they made with Uncle Paul. Thanks again to my great brother for all the help!

Snownami 2008!!!

So, a Merry Christmas to all and to all a good bite...that is for all of the twilight junkies out there...sheesh there sure are a lot of you out there. Anyway, we have been busy this past year with moving, guiding, climbing, schooling, new jobing, Thanksgivinging and Christmasing and a slew of other -ing's that are too numerous to mention.
But we are none the worse for the wear. Well except for Ysabel, she has been losing teeth like a prize bare fist fighter...but that is to be expected for a girl in the 1st grade. Sierra, however, still has all of hers chipped though they may be from a few too many headers taken during her high speed exploits around the house. Maya has fared well coming in with the least visits to the emergency room as a toddler. (A record that we are proud as peacocks for) But all in all we are happy and that is what matters.
Heather recently passed her Life Insurance exam as did Phil and he is getting ready to take his securities exam in June or sooner. So if you need anything financially related give them a call. But lately life has been centered around the home recently snow flew and the girls could not wait to get out in it. So, we leave this as a parting shot. Grandpa and Adam came over for F.H.E. We made and decorated sugar cookies. It was a lot of fun. The girls always love it when Grandpa visits and its even more fun to have an uncle so close in age to play with.

Trick Arrrrr Treat

Today our brass knocker on our old wooden door keeps blowing in the cold wind, it makes it sound as if winter is really knocking at my door. At least this year the weather held out and was pretty decent for Halloween. It was just a little chilly and we could actually see the cute costumes.(it seems most years they are worn under your snow suit) My ski's looked lonely on the wall of our garage and I can say I'm now looking forward to the cold weather as long as it brings in lots of snow. I'm getting excited to be in the mountains this winter and have some area's I want to explore, but at the same time wondering how long it will be before I'm ready to pack my climbing shoes and head South so I can get my skin back on some rock.

Late as Usual

The summer...actually the entire calender year have been very eventful. We are happy to say that Phil has finally finished the wood floors in the living room and now we are just waiting for him to finish stripping the wallpaper off of the walls so we can paint it and move onto the master bedroom. In the interim, we will move the bedroom into the living room and live there for a spell.

Heather has been busy traveling all over the West climbing and enjoying life. The girls has both been in school and are recieving as well as dishing out an education. Maya recently turned two and her attitude has kicked up at least several notches! Oh...We have also added a new element to the blog...a slideshow so we hope you like it.

The Management

Locals Pull their Way to Top Honors

Rexburg, Idaho- April 2nd several hopeful climbing contestants converged on Rexburg's own Stick and Stones to compete in the first bouldering competition to grace its newly rennovated and steepened walls.
The competition was seperated into two 90-minute heats. Each climber had 5 opportunities to climb each individual problem that ranged from V0-V4 (YDS >5.10+ to 5.12c).
As the competitors lined up on the reclaimed TEVA, it was like watching the line-ups at the beginning of a marathon. There was a little jockeying for position and a little bumping and some definite posturing. However, the overall attitude was easy-going and the participants seemed to be there to just have fun. In the end, two Eastern Idaho locals emerged as the top male and female point getters. Aaron or Sven Taow a BYU-Idaho student from Pocatello and Heather Hanamaikai, a mother of 3 who recently returned to the Rexburg area from a 3 year hiatus in Wyoming, took the top honors. Emily Steadman, a BYU-Idaho student from Montana and Justin Avenius took 2nd Place. While Beth Avenius, a mother of about 4 months, from Driggs, Idaho and Chad Aldridge rounded out the winners in 3rd place.
All in all it is safe to say that the local representation is in good hands with these fine athletes. Congratulations to all of the winners and a big thank you to all of the participants.

Riddin the Goods!

Ysabel reminded me that I promised her that she and a friend could go sledding on the little hill next to the house. So, I put my shovel to work and was able to construct a nice little sled run, complete with two little jumps. Everyone had fun and there were no broken tail bones!

Many people are suffering from winter doldrums. Our advice, get out there and enjoy the winter! Because soon, it will be time to put away those sweaters and trade them in for shorts and t-shirts. But be warned, excessive fun has been known to induce giggles and cheesy smiles!

Keep on Truckin'

in the off case that you were wondering, the phillip and heather hanamaikai clan has embarked on yet another adventure. hopefully, this one will take. phil has accepted a job that brings them back to, of all places, rexburg. if you didn't know tht is where phil went to school and where heather's family is from. we will be moving back into our home, (gracas a xuxa) and we WILL be staying there for quite a while. so, if you are in town drop on in we promise that we are worth the effort.
